Ruptured Meadow

A zipper divides a Baskett Slough meadow in half. Waves of stitched lines and color bands echo the motion from the opened zipper.

Culvert

Horizontally striped fabric is under and spilled out of the Minto Brown field and pathway. Elevated tucks in the fabric form shadows and a scooped pattern like a ditch on the side of a road.

Plotted & Pleated

Marks denoting survey measurements cover the Baskett Slough hills and view. Sewn pleats distort the hill rhythm while the pleats 3-2-2 pattern dominates and interrupts the scene.

Neighborhood: Past, Present, Future

Using a former sheer curtain, the artist's neighborhood site plan is stitched upon a rendering of a Baskett Slough oak savanna. Our uncertain future is formed into another arrangement of domestic tradition; the skirt.

Ghost Maple One

Even in the natural environment of Minto Brown, there are saplings, trees or plants that "stand-out" or seem "unnatural".  While walking on a dirt path, our steps keep plants from growing. Together these thoughts are uttered with router and paint.

Ghost Maple Two

Seasonal wetlands at Minto Brown soften and grey the palette. Branches of a maple sapling are simultaneously blurred and sharp..

Old Timer Looks Out of Place

Much of Minto Brown Park was planted as farmland. Between those propagated spans are tightly jumbled thickets and swales. Occasionally among this rise broad girthed Poplars from an even earlier time.

Revised Old Timer

A tightly jumbled branch pattern is drawn with white scribbles onto an alternated light dark horizontally striped fabric.  The erratic movement caused by these two adjacent patterns starkly contrasts the strong upward bark pattern abstracted from an old Poplar tree.

Virus One

A polka-dot print was enlarged to form the arrangement of holes cut from the depiction of a dense stand of firs at Zena Forest. Trying to look at both images at the same time causes a sick-like feeling.

Virus Two

The same polka-dot print used in "Virus One", is more enlarged and simplified. The comparative lightness is easier on the eyes.

Limb Language One

Abstracting a view of tree limbs into an arrangement of lines communicates that;  close or thick lines seem darker, wide to narrow lines point directionally, and straight or curved lines rest or wiggle.  A small red "X" focuses your view so that your peripheral sight can feel what the limbs are saying.

Limb Language Two

Ochre paint applied with a fine brush onto thin cotton was repeatedly torn and stitched back together resulting in a grid of thick and thin, warm and cool. A bit of flotsum is caught due to high water or wind or perhaps a nest is among the limbs.
